Since being honored in 2005, Tammie continued to provide scuba experiences to children and adults with disabilities at Camp Aranzazu. Camp Aranzazu is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults who have special needs. While rarely certifying the campers, she was able to provide them with a life-enriching experience that opens a door to a new underwater world. It is amazing to see children with autism calm down with the pace of their bubbles; or children who have cancer attempt an adventure sport that other people told them they could not achieve. When they are physically and mentally able, and have the desire, Tammy is available to teach them through PADI. Tammy says, “It has been such a blessing to experience scuba as a ministry!” She was promoted to Camp Director of Camp Aranzazu in 2006, and then Executive Director in 2009. She also earned a Master of Public Administration Degree in Nonprofit Management in 2010. Although she left Camp Aranzazu in 2014 to start a consulting business with her husband, she continues to volunteer and advise the program staff on their scuba program when she can.“My degrees and my life experiences have given me the tools to be more effective in my mission of serving people with disabilities. I am proud of my service, and of my recognition in the Women Divers Hall of Fame!”
