Summer is a fourteen-year-old freshman attending Kubasaki High School in Okinawa, Japan. As the daughter of a U.S. Marine and an elementary/science teacher, she has had the opportunity to live, travel, and study around the world. One constant drive is her passion for science and life in the water. Since moving to Okinawa in 2016, she has swum year-round for the Dolphins Swim Team, won two consecutive district level science fairs for her work with magnets, attended STEMinar at Tsukuba University in Tokyo, and completed her Junior Open Water Diver Certification. With this grant, she plans to earn her Advanced Open Water Diver Certification, so that she may pursue a career in marine engineering.
