Sarani graduated from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka with a B.A. in Mass Media in 2020, and is currently working on an LLB at the University of London under their international programs. A trained facilitator for Peace and Youth Empowerment, she has been working with many organizations in Sri Lankan coastal areas and involved in projects such as: awareness workshops for schools, beach and reef cleanups, tree planting campaigns, and reef restoration. She works closely with small-scale fishing communities for transformative education and traditional knowledge transferring to younger generations on preserving marine ecosystems. This multi-step program will include mapping the seafloor for species identification and documentation, and then disseminating the information among local people, schools, government regulatory authorities and the boat community.
