As a zoology student, Monisha has been curious about the diversity of animals and their surroundings. When she was working on her my Masters degree, she had attended a lecture that motivated her to work in this field. She has become interested in sea slugs and especially Haminoea on which taxonomic work till now has not been conducted in India. This has further motivated her to conduct research in this field. She is working on her Ph.D. at Bombay Natural History Society.
