Maya is a junior at Brown University, studying Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a focus on marine community ecology. Her current research examines the ecological function of reef fish and community responses to extreme climate events such as El Niño in the Galápagos Marine Reserve. She is also dedicated to increasing the accessibility of research careers, and works closely with programs in the Caribbean teaching marine science to young women. Maya intends to continue her education, teaching, and research with a Ph.D. in marine ecology.
