The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Women’s Scuba Association Training Grant

Mary Bertschi

Mary is in her junior year of high school at Southold High School in New York. She has been in the NJROTC program for three years and is a Lieutenant Junior Grade. During the summer of 2013 she spent a week at the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment. Seeing first hand the amazing efforts being made to save the world’s oceans, she decided then and there to become one of the people responsible for conserving the seas. After deciding to become a Marine Biologist, she knew the first step in the right direction would be to become scuba certified. “This amazing ability would place me miles ahead of where I am now, setting me on the path towards becoming a marine biologist, and achieving my goals.” She plans to continue in Navy ROTC while in college, and is looking into attending either Tulane or Loyola New Orleans.
