Madelyn Roycroft is a Master’s degree student in Biological Sciences at California Polytechnic State University studying coral reef ecology and marine conservation. Growing up along the Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola, Florida, fueled her interest in scuba diving and the marine environment. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, she worked as an AAUS certified dive technician in the Florida Keys before entering graduate school. Her Master’s thesis research brought her to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, where she is studying the impacts of overfishing on the feeding behavior of parrotfishes, which are key coral reef herbivores. She intends to incorporate outreach events with her research in the Caribbean to educate the public on the importance of maintaining a healthy coral reef system.
