Women Divers Hall of Fame Graduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation

Lee Eyal-Shaham

Lee grew up in Israel and spent most of her childhood at the Mediterranean beach. Her passion for diving led her into technical diving, and she is now a qualified Noromoxic Trimix diver, which she uses for her research on the “Mesophotic Zone” in Eilat (Red-Sea). Since she received the scholarship, Lee completed her master’s degree in 2013 at Tel Aviv University, and is pursuing her Ph.D. in deep (mesophotic) reef corals (MCEs) at the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea. Her research interest is exploring the reproductive strategies and timing of stony coral species common in both deep water and rare shallower depths. She intends to continue exploring that unique area in other places around the globe. Additionally, she has a skipper license and a cavern diver certificate.
