WDHOF Undergraduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation sponsored by Sherry Reed

Kelsey Doyle

Kelsey is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in both biology and criminal justice at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Her coursework will continue to focus on marine conservation and education. Since receiving her scholarship, Kelsey completed a research and husbandry internship at the Inwater Research Group at the Fort Pierce Nuclear Power Plant, working with sea turtles that were accidentally trapped inside the cooling tanks of the plant. Kelsey was trained to collect environmental data and quantitative data, including sea turtle weight, carapace size and parasite identification. In the last year, Kelsey has enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and is currently going through Army Officer training. Unfortunately, this has taken away from her opportunities to conduct any further internships or research. In the future, Kelsey hopes to continue her impact on ocean conservation in her local community through a career in Law Enforcement. She hopes to work as part of a marine unit to help reduce the occurrence of illegal fishing and other hazardous behavior on the water. She also plans to volunteer at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach, Florida during her free time.
