Kelli, an AAUS scientific research diver and mother of two daughters, is a Master’s student at the University of Florida majoring in Fisheries and Aquatic sciences. Her thesis involves evaluating staghorn coral production techniques in an ocean-based nursery with consideration of genotype and initial outplant performance of the same genotypes between sites and in relation to nursery growth. She is also looking at changes within the coral symbiotic algae over the timespan and between all areas. She hopes this research will aid best practices in coral restoration and she currently stays involved with sustainability as a fisheries biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service.
