WDHOF Graduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation, sponsored by WDHOF

Julia Mason

Julia Mason is a second-year Ph.D. student in Biology at Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station, where she participates in the AAUS science diving program. She received her B.A. from Harvard in Environmental Science and Public Policy, and then worked on science diving throughout the National Parks as the 2013 Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society NPS Intern, and on coral reef monitoring on a research fellowship in Palau. She studies the dynamics of California and Peru gillnet fisheries, working toward adaptive management to reduce accidental catch of sea turtles, mammals, and sharks while sustaining local livelihoods in the face of environmental variability and climate change.
