The Women Divers Hall of Fame Graduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation

Jennifer Sweatman

Jenn is currently a Ph. D. Candidate in Biology at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Through Jenn’s undergraduate and graduate research, her central tenet has been to understand the mechanisms driving changes in near-shore ecosystems as a result of coastal development and apply this knowledge to conservation programs. Her dissertation research focuses on understanding the impact of fragmentation and nutrient enrichment on seagrass ecosystems. While at FIU, Jenn has earned her AAUS scientific diver certification and logged over 500 dives managing her lab’s FKNMS and LTER monitoring programs. After she graduates, Jenn wants to continue her research and collaborate with resource managers in an effort to mitigate loss of valuable coastal habitats.
