The Women Divers Hall of Fame Advanced Dive Training Grant

Jenna Budke

Jenna is a junior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Science. Growing up in Minnesota, she says she always had a passion for wildlife and the ocean. She was PADI scuba certified in a lake but her love of marine life brought her to Hawaii to pursue becoming a marine scientist. Selection to the QUEST (Quantitative Underwater Ecological Surveying Techniques) internship is helping to achieve that goal. The grant will assist her in paying for the QUEST program, which uses SCUBA to conduct ecological monitoring of coral reefs, identification of invasive species, coral disease identification, and fish and invertebrate abundance estimates. After finishing the course Jenna will have her scientific diver qualification and the necessary skills for her future in her chosen field.
