Hailey is a graduate student within the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology at NewYork’s Columbia University. Her academic interests lie in the disciplines of Marine Biology, Behavioral Ecology, and Ethology. Hailey's research thesis aims to assess the effects of macro and microplastic ingestion on Cheloniidae (seaturtle) populations throughout the Hawaiian Archipelago. Hailey plans to conduct extensive fieldwork over the summer of 2022 to acquire, analyze, and quantify data to implement robust conservation strategies that will enable an overall increase in Cheloniidae survivorship rates while simultaneously promoting the preservation of surrounding vulnerable marine biota.
