Gina is a certified Rescue Diver and a Ph.D. candidate in the Use, Management and Preservation of Natural Resources program at CIBNOR. Her thesis project is about temporal changes in fish fauna at Marine Protected Areas, and she will use this award to analyze the effects of the ceasing of tourism due to the COVID-19 quarantine on fish diversity.Since her Bachelor’s (Marine Biology-UABCS) and Master’s (MarineEcology-CICESE) studies, she has participated in multiple underwater monitoring programs and coral restoration efforts. As alternative projects, she studies mesophotic reefs with the use of Remotely Operated Vehicles and coordinates science communication projects.
