David, a native of Central Massachusetts, has been dealing with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and its crippling effects since age 2. Growing up, he lived most of his childhood in and out of hospitals. After over 40 years and multiple joint replacements and other surgeries, he decided to change his “disability” into “ability” and discover the vast outdoors. Working with several organizations that assist the disabled, David has recently learned to sail, kayak and even had the opportunity to water ski. David plans to use this grant to gain experience and confidence to scuba dive in open water. In the future, he hopes to show other physically disabled persons that anything is possible if they just open themselves to new experiences.
