Courtney Brown completed her B.H.K. and M.Sc. at the University of British Columbia where she developed a passion for physiology. During her M.Sc., she was able to work with elite breath-hold divers which inspired her passion for diving physiology. From there, she learned about the Ama and Bajau populations that have been free diving as a means of survival for thousands of years and show physiological adaptations that support their marine-dependent lifestyle. Courtney’s goal is to work with the Ama people to better understand if these differences are genetic and what their functional outcomes are.
