As a Sonoma State master’s student and California Department of Fish and Wildlife scientific diver, Athena monitors the health of invertebrate fisheries in California. With a lack of quality underwater photos of temperate invertebrates in the western hemisphere, she hopes to bring a face to the beauty and diversity of California’s subtidal zone. Paired with scientific research, she aims to use photography to communicate science professionally, academically, and publicly. With more training and time to develop her skills in underwater photography, she plans to increase the quality and breadth of her photography portfolio and her contribution to marine conservation.
