Anne used the $2500 scholarship to support her studies in a Masters Degree at NOVA Southeastern University. After moving to the Florida Keys, McCarthy began working as a marine biologist/diver on a coral restoration project and as a Research Assistant at the Florida Marine Research Institute. In 2000, she became the lead on the Damage Assessment & Restoration team for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary that has developed a specialty in vessel groundings, freighter anchoring and other events that threaten the health of coral reefs. She has been working at CSA Ocean Sciences, Inc. as a Marine Environmental Consultant/Project Manager since July 2006. “Working at CSA for over 9 years now, I have had the opportunity to participate in and lead a range of projects in the coastal and marine environment. As our company continues to grow, I am privileged to have the opportunity to manage these projects both in the field and in direct coordination with our clients. My role at CSA continues to evolve and most recently, I joined a larger group of colleagues to focus on mitigation, marine habitat mapping, and monitoring. In addition, I have increased my responsibilities as a project manager and have the incredible opportunity to work with a diverse and experienced group of senior scientists and managers. Diving continues to be a core part of what many of us do here at CSA, and I sincerely feel lucky to work with an incredible group of dedicated, talented divers and scientists. As my tenure at CSA grows, I hope to continue my professional development and pass my experience along to junior staff as they join our team. Please visit our website to learn more: www.csaocean.com.”
