Graduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation, sponsored by WDHOF

Abigail Engleman

Abigail is a PADI Divemaster, underwater photographer, and conservationist. She holds a B.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina and is now enrolled as a doctoral student in Florida State University’s Department of Biological Science. Her doctoral research focuses on using cutting edge technology to alleviate human impacts on coral reefs. To do this, Abigail prints 3D coral replicates infused with chemicals that encourage larval settlement. These 3D-printed coral structures are then deployed onto physically damaged reefs, restoring lost ecosystem function. Abigail hopes this research inspires future interdisciplinary approaches to global coral reef conservation.
