The Women Divers Hall of Fame / Cecelia Connelly Memorial Scholarship in Underwater Archaeology

Abigail Casavant

Abigail is an M.A. student in History and Underwater Archaeology at the University of Rhode Island, where she also earned her B.A. in History, Anthropology, and Underwater Archaeology. Her research interests include Irish immigrant shipwrecks of the 19th century Atlantic, as well as historical underwater archaeology in Akko, Israel, where she will continue her fieldwork this summer on several mid-19th century Ottoman wrecks. She is also interested in underwater archaeological applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Abigail will continue her dive training this spring to become Advanced and Rescue certified, and looks forward to returning to Israel and diving in the memory of Cecelia Connelly.
