During her 20 years with the not-for-profit group CEDAM International, Susan mobilized more than 100 scuba diving expeditions in support of marine conservation and science. With other volunteer divers and under the direction of leading scientists in the field, she participated in 40 expeditions, mapping reefs, collecting fish and gathering data on fragile marine ecosystems. Working with her husband, photographer Rick Sammon, she also helped to capture images that celebrate underwater wonders and remote cultures. During an assignment to Siberia in 1990, she became one of the first women to scuba dive in Russia’s legendary Lake Baikal. Susan continues to support the marine environment today through the CEDAM Scholarship program, which funds teachers to participate in diving expeditions and encourages them to share their experiences with others.
