(deceased) Helen began diving in the late 1950’s in Key West, Florida, where she learned from and then later assisted the Navy SEAL instructors. She investigated the effects of diving activities on coral reefs and earned her masters degree in Marine Science in 1991. The following year The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recognized her for her excellence and leadership in coastal and marine research. Helen received her Ph.D. for the examination of the cellular processes associated with bleaching in reef organisms in 2002. Her life was committed to coral reef conservation. Helen was inducted posthumously.
