WDHOF Dive Trips

DOMINICA!  The Caribbean’s Best-Kept Secret

WDHOF has been wanting to visit there for so long!

Diving is different from much of the neighboring Caribbean with walls plunging down over 1500 feet, sea mounts rising from the ocean floor with legions of schooling fish, the thriving reefs covered in corals and most colorful sponges. Sea horses, frogfish, flying Gunnards are common here as are the sea turtles! It’s a diver / photographer paradise, truly. The average vis is 80 feet and the water temp is 80 degrees, sweet indeed.

Dominica is considered to be the whale-watching capital of the Caribbean with both resident and visiting whales; we’re going during the peak season (Nov-May) so it’s probable that we’ll spot sperm whales, humpbacks and dolphins at an 80% success spotting rate. So, the opportunity to sight one of a dozen species is good! And the Above-Water attractions are bountiful on “The Nature Island.” Plunging waterfalls, emerald pools, lakes, clean rivers, hot springs and hiking trails abound.

Culturally, one could hardly ask for more. Protected by the ravages of time, the First Dominicans, some 3500 Caribs are the welcoming aboriginal Kalinago who have vanished from other islands. They have maintained the customs from thousands of years ago! Come to the Carib Territory and share in the generosity, peace, and simple abundance of the first people. Wow.

If all that is not enough, there is also the opportunity to jump on an hour-long ferry ride to island-hop and visit Martinique, Guadeloupe or St. Lucia Islands!

It’s a must to now visit www.fortyounghotel.com for a complete overview and to more fully visualize the accommodations, scenery, marvelous cuisine, activities, and more.
